Our First Place Shark winner was Parker Hazen with Hazen Construction. He caught the largest shark of the day at 76 inches, securing him that trophy as well as $500.

And finally, First Place for Snook was a tie at 30 inches between Doug Dirscherl with Silo Pros, LLC and Tom Underwood with TRP Infrastructure Services. The winner was determined by first to submit, and Tom Underwood received the trophy and $500.

First-of-its-Kind Dashboard Highlights Benefits of Federal Highway Investment in Florida

WASHINGTON – Florida leveraged $644.2 million in federal funds to advance $1,798.7 million in highway improvements during fiscal year (FY) 2018, according to an interactive tool that for the first time provides the public and elected officials a clear look at how and where the state invests its transportation tax dollars.

Obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, the American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s (ARTBA) “Highway Dashboard: A 50-State Guide to the Benefits of Federal Investment” displays information on more than 639 Florida projects that moved forward in FY 2018. Based on Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) data, the dashboard provides the same information for all states.

The top five projects receiving federal funding in the state during 2018 included:

• SR 414 (MAITLAND BLVD) FROM SR 400 (I-4) TO CR 427 (MAITLAND AVE); ADD LANES & REHABILITATE PVMNT; CONSTRUCTION

“This dashboard helps shift the conversation from how much each state gets to specific outcomes and benefits,” ARTBA President Dave Bauer says.  “Such transparency and accountability will help residents better understand the value they are getting from infrastructure investments.” 

The current federal FAST Act surface transportation law expires September 30.  As Congress continues working on a new long-term bill, the dashboard will help members of Congress and their staffs to learn more about projects and how federal funds are being utilized in their respective states, ARTBA says.

“The dashboard spotlights the important role the federal highway program plays in our state,” says Ananth Prasad, President of the Florida Transportation Builders' Association (FTBA). “Passage of a long-term bill by Congress with increased investment is the right medicine to significantly boost our economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In FY 2018, 29 percent of projects costs were for reconstruction or repair work on existing highways, according to the ARTBA analysis.  Planning, design and construction engineering (21 percent of funds), added capacity (15 percent) and new construction (14 percent), are among 12 ways the state spent its transportation dollars.

Compiled by ARTBA Chief Economist Dr. Alison Premo Black, the ARTBA Highway Dashboard features the top projects dating back to 1950. This data is submitted by states as part of FHWA’s Fiscal Management Information System (FMIS).

Established in 1933, FTBA consists of individuals and private sector firms actively engaged in the construction of transportation systems or in the furnishing materials, equipment or other services for such construction.

• Each member company will have their own company profile/account log-in. Anyone within the company can manage the information, as long as they have the company's credentials. Who you have administer your account is up to you!
  • The main company's account has a link that can be provided to employees to directly link them to the company's master account.
  • Employees must be linked to the master account in order to qualify for the member rates for various registrations.
  • The main company's account can add or remove employees.
  • The main company's account has access to all employees' profiles and can register each individual if needed.
  • The main company's account can set up "secondary locations" for different locations or branches around the state. Those branches can then manage their own employee accounts.

• Each person will have their own individual account with individual login credentials. This personal account is how each person will register for events or interact/connect while in the database. If you manage your company's master account you will have two sets of credentials - one for your company account and one for your personal account
